The software management program works flawlessly. This APC unit has transformed a hideous jumble of power cables into an orderly and space saving collection. It delivers clean, uninterrupted power to my computer and all five of my peripheral devices at a rock steady 120 volts. Like a regular hard drive back-up program, anti-virus and security protection, a good UPS device is indispensable for protecting your expensive high tech investment. This one fills the bill nicely.
This compact size back up power supply has all of the needed features. Worth the money. I do not know how long the back up power actually lasts, but it is definitely long enough to finish working and shut down normally.
The other 6 outlets act as a surge protector or switch. My area suffers from unexpected one second off/on interruptions -- not actually a power shutdown, but a second or two is long enough to kill a computer. In addition to providing power for the computer and monitor, there is one more outlet to allow power for a router or other low power device.
One big advantage is that this unit also regulates power. In effect, this one device serves as the power strip where every part of the computer system can be plugged in, so there is one click access to a shutdown and which only needs one outlet in the home. It is fairly heavy and comes with auto-shut down software to sense a power failure and allow the computer system to do a normal shutdown.
This is no no longer a problem. I see no need to buy a big tower style unit.
There are plenty of outlets for most home computer rooms. I'm not using the power management with my mac since our power outages are usually only momentary. The battery keeps everything up and running through the blips.
The extra run time for the computer when the power fails is nice also. This item APC BE750 is a replacement for an older model APC. One of the features I like is the 10 outlets. All in all I am very pleased with this product. It does what I wanted it to.
This whole experience has been exactly as I hoped - easy to set up, nice features and information, and it works. My PC power remained on and I later was able to view historical data and events that the unit automatically logged.
I unpacked it and read the simple instructions which can be boiled down to "unpack unit, plug wire into battery (shipped disconnected), plug unit into wall and use with preferred devices." My unit worked perfectly out of the box and was easy to set up. This UPS arrived yesterday.
Coincidentally I had a power blip within 3 hours of installing it. I installed the DVD software quickly which allows many custom setup options for voltage trip (high/low), power time before shutdown, etc.
I'm new to these products, but it was simple. It showed the nature of interruption (low voltage) and the duration, along with remaining battery life.
So far, so good, I love it.
